File Manager
Menu
Details
The File Manager is used for managing foreground vector data maps, background
vector data maps and background raster maps.
When...
File Manager is used for managing foreground vector data maps (eg. .SBF)
in a DataSpace, as follows:
- Indicate which maps are contained in the current DataSpace and display a
summary of their contents.
- Indicate when a map has been modified but not saved.
- List the contents of any of the open maps.
- Save all items in any of the open maps by over-writing the source file.
- Save to a specified map file.
- Close any map file, or a number of specified map files.
- Read, create or edit a file-note for any of the open .SBF
maps. A file-note is used to record important or relevant details about a
map. A file-note can be amended as required so that updates to a map can be
recorded.
File Manager is used also for managing background vector data maps (eg.
.CMF) and background raster maps (eg. .bmp) in a DataSpace, as follows:
- Indicate which maps are contained in a map window.
- Extract CMF data to the active DataSpace.
- Toggle CMF drawing options.
- Show raster at best scale
- Close any of the maps.
The File Manager window is dockable inside its related map window.
For specifying how DataSpaces are displayed, see Environment Manager
1. How to start
- Use the menu option: View > File Manager
- The File Manager window is displayed:
- Note that the File Manager window is split into a top and bottom
section. You can resize the sections by clicking and dragging the horizontal
bar that splits the two sections.
To aid in the description of the File Manager, we will refer to the top section
of the window as the Tree View section and the bottom section of the
window as the Details section.
2. Display a list of open map files and summary of map contents
Displaying a list
- The File Manager window is displayed with the following three entries
in the Tree View section:
- Foreground data
- Background vector
- Background raster
- A tree control is used (as in Windows Explorer) in the Tree View
section , and [+] is shown at the left of an entry when file(s) of a related
type are available (i.e. open in the map).
- Click the [+] symbol to show a tree-list of these open files. When the list
is open, the [+] symbol is replaced by a [-] symbol. Click the [-] symbol
to close the list.
Viewing a map-contents summary
When the file name of a map is highlighted in the Tree View section,
a summary of its contents appears in a table in the Details section of
the File Manager window. This summary indicates the following:
- Total Items - The number of items in the map (before any items are
added or deleted)
- Read Only - Whether the map was opened or set as read-only (yes/no)
- Path - The full path of the map file (e.g. C:\StruMap\Data\maps\TB\TB1622SW.sbf)
- New Items Added - Whether new items have been added to the map (yes/no)
- New Items - The number of items that have been added since the map
was last saved
- Modified Items - The number of items that have been modified since
the map was last saved
- Modified - Whether existing items in the map file have been modified
(yes/no)
- Deleted Items - The number of items that have been deleted since
the map was last saved
- AutoLoaded - Whether a map is an AutoLoad tile (yes/no)
When an item in a map has been added, a New* entry is listed immediately
below the file name of the map in the tree list in the Tree View section,
however, if file association is configured,
new items will be added to the appropriate map files automatically, hence the
New* entry will not be displayed.
In order to view the details of any new map items, Click New* - details
of the changes are then shown in the Details section of the dialog.

11. Extract CMF data to the active DataSpace

the file name of the required map.
- Click Extract in the right-click menu that opens.

the map window).
